Jersey Cares, Elijah’s Promise, Military Care Package – Charity Donations

The Mother Seton Council #15540 of the Knights of Columbus recently donated $1,000 to Operation Jersey Cares (www.operationjerseycares.org).  Operation Jersey Cares (OJC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting our Armed Forces’ members, their families and veterans.

The Council continues its support of those who are serving or have served in the military.  Last year, it arranged for a care package to be sent to a reservist deployed overseas.  Additionally, in the past it has provided for a nongambling poker event monthly at the Lyons VA Hospital.  Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions, this activity is currently on temporary hiatus.  Patriotism is an important tenet of the Knights.

Additionally, the Council recently donated $1000 to Elijah’s Promise (www.elijahspromise.org) in support of the program to help feed others in our community.  Elijah’s Promise is based in New Brunswick, NJ. where it provides meals on a daily basis.

Puppies Behind Bars – Charity Donation

Thanks for your generous donation of $750 !!!

The dogs in our program spend many weekends on outings with Puppies Behind Bars volunteers and staff. Through these socialization visits, our puppies are exposed to a wide variety of sights, sounds, and stimuli. They hike in the woods, visit supermarkets and shopping malls, walk on unusual surfaces, gain exposure to children and household appliances, and get comfortable with objects and experiences they would not encounter in prison. This helps them become more confident when they go on to become working dogs. While in prison with their puppy-raisers, some of the puppies are trained as service dogs for wounded veterans or first responders. By the time they graduate, they learn many commands to make life easier for their human companions. Other puppies are trained as explosive- detection canines for work with law enforcement officers.
